Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Pediatric Chiropractic FAQ

Chiropractic care is very safe for all children.  The techniques and adjustments used are much gentler and with much less force than what would be used on an adult.  However, this is a great reason to make sure you see a pediatric chiropractor who is trained to care for kids.

Kids of all ages can and should see a pediatric chiropractor.  Infants are no exception!  In fact, my second son was adjusted just hours after birth!

Labor and delivery can cause lots of stress on a baby’s nervous system.  Birth interventions such as induction, forceps, vacuum, pain meds, C-sections, and so on are very traumatic for your precious ones.  Pregnancy stress can affect the baby in the womb too!  We can determine how and where to adjust your kiddos with our neuro-scanning technology that tells us where the problem areas are.  And, of course life happens as kids get older (slips, trips, falls, sickness, growth, athletic injuries, etc.), so toddlers all the way up to adolescents and beyond should be assessed and adjusted regularly.

We absolutely treat babies!  Babies are unable to tell us anything regarding their well-being.  Does that mean they don’t hurt or don’t need to be adjusted?  Nope.  They do, so we do.  Our Insight Scans help us see where babies need a little extra help.

Chiropractic care has proven quite beneficial for colic.  This issue is one that affects the whole family, so we definitely suggest bringing your kiddo in ASAP to get the relief you all need!

Prenatal Chiropractic FAQ

Chiropractic care is very safe during pregnancy.  Not only is it safe, but it provides relief from common aches and pains that happen during pregnancy and is known to facilitate a smoother labor and delivery process.

While this is in the realm of hypothetical possibilities, chiropractic adjustments are very safe for mother and baby.  As the baby starts to get bigger and bigger in the womb, extra measures are taken to ensure both of you stay safe and comfortable.  When you are expecting, just let us know so we can celebrate with you, support you, and take proper precautions with you!

As your pregnancy progresses, there are many things going on.  Your baby is growing, your internal organs have to shift, a hormone called Relaxin is produced which loosens your ligaments and joints, and you have to start carrying more weight which can strain different muscles.  We can address these changes and make sure your pelvis, spine, and nervous system are firing on all cylinders during pregnancy.

We would love to care for you and your baby after birth!  Whenever you are comfortable coming in, we want to make sure things are falling back into place appropriately.  Chiropractic care is great for encouraging the healing process.

Webster Technique is a certification by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association that helps chiropractors gain expertise in caring for pregnant women.  I am Webster certified, as I have completed this training.

Family Chiropractic FAQ

Chiropractic care is very safe.  Not only is it safe on its own, but when compared to modern medicine any potential side effects are quite rare and usually very mild.  Many studies have shown this to be the case, and serious adverse effects from chiropractic care are extraordinarily uncommon.

Chiropractors graduated from a chiropractic school and earned the D.C. degree, which stands for Doctor of Chiropractic.  So yes, chiropractors are doctors.

Chiropractors can care for many kinds of pain, discomfort, or other health concerns.  In order to provide a more accurate answer, it’s best to come in to see us and we can talk about if we can help you and if so, what our recommendations for care are.

An adjustment is simply a force applied through a joint in order the make a change to the nervous system.  When a joint is tight, fixated, or restricted, it affects or is affected by the nervous system.  In order to get your nervous system fully functioning again, we have to find these problem areas called subluxations, and adjust them.  This restores proper communication between the brain, spinal cord, and body.

“More than a tickle, but way less than paying your taxes” (name that movie)… Adjustments are not usually painful.  It is common for the adjustment to be uncomfortable for a moment until it is completed, but as soon as the adjustment has been made there is typically a feeling of relief.  If you are nervous about being adjusted, let us know and we will walk you through every step of the process.

The popping or cracking sound is called joint cavitation.  This is common, and it is usually a sure sign that the adjustment was successful.  Adjustments do not necessarily require the popping sound, but most people enjoy it because of the sensation of relief that comes with it.  The latest theory of what exactly causes this is that the joint pulls gases out of the surrounding tissues and fluid which causes the sound.

Unfortunately no. Specializing in pediatric, pregnancy, and family care like we do, we have very specific treatment protocols that we follow to get the best results and meet your goals.  Health insurance contracts limit the care we can give you because they consider subluxation-focused care not medically necessary. Medical care focuses on the treatment of symptoms, whereas subluxation-centered chiropractic (like we do) is a cause-based approach focused on actual long-term healing and restoration. That being said, HSA and Flex-type accounts work perfectly for this type of care!
